Company of the year will be chosen from the winners of each of the individual categories. Technology innovation and business success will be taken into account as the judges identify one company which demonstrates outstanding achievements.     

Embedded System Product of the Year 

Embedded system design typically relies on leading edge software running on processor, FPGA or DSP platforms and we are inviting companies to enter their most innovation product launches of the last 12 months. Judging criteria will be the products – performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application.  Entries are expected to range from bus-based board systems to single chip system-on-chip designs. Equally applicable will be embedded software ranging from operating systems to development tools.   

R & D Award 

R&D in this category can relate to research and development in a component, hardware system, software or process technology. The R&D may or may not yet have found its way into a commercial product. So companies will we invited to demonstrate how they have implemented a piece of R&D to achieve a specific project goal. Hardware and software technology will be judged equally in this regard as will the creation of intellectual property (IP) which offers a specific design benefit.

Distributor of the Year

These are challenging times for all companies and distributors have the opportunity to demonstrate their business innovation. Entering companies will need to demonstrate that they derive a majority of their revenues from the selling of components, systems or software products which are manufactured by their principals. A distributor's overall approach to the market will be judged as much as commercial success or market share.

Contract Manufacturer of the Year sponsored by



Despite the challenges in the market, electronic manufacturing service (EMS) providers, remain at the heart of the European electronics industry. So we are inviting EMS providers to tell us about their achievements during the last 12 months. Business highlights may include newly introduced technical capabilities, environmental legislation compliance projects and investments. 

Fabless Semiconductor Supplier of Year sponsored by



Fabless semiconductor suppliers were never more important to the European electronics design industry. Whether it is commercial success for new product introductions or specific product intellectual property (IP) developments we are inviting fabless suppliers to present their achievements during the last 12 months. 

Design & Test Product of the Year sponsored by



This product category is dedicated to finding the most innovative design or test system of the last 12 months. Suppliers of test systems and EDA design tools are invited to enter what they see as their single most product introduction. The category is open to hardware and software systems.

Whether it’s resistors, capacitors, inductors or resonators you supply. Or switches, connectors or actuators, we invite companies to enter their most innovation passive or electromechanical component introduction of the last 12 months.

Power System Product of the Year

With power system design at the heart of most development projects, the scope for innovation to achieve commercial and technical differentiation through smart power system design has rarely been greater.

Environmental Award sponsored by



We are inviting companies to demonstrate how their business strategies are reducing the impact on the environment of their products, manufacturing processes and commercial practices. The judges will be looking for evidence of how good environmental practice has permeated across the company by being inclusive of staff at all levels of the organisation. 

Start-up of the Year sponsored by



Venture fund or privately financed companies which have set up operations in Europe in the last five years will be considered for the start-up of the year award. We invite entries from start-up companies building a world-class business in anyone of a range of business activities from product design and manufacture through to online services companies.

Student Engineer of the Year

Electronics Weekly is inviting universities and colleges to enter their most outstanding students in electronics and software. Both undergraduate and post-graduate students will be eligible to enter for this award. It is hoped that the winning student will demonstrate a combination of both technical knowledge and practical application of their skills.    

Renewable Energy Design Award



Entries should demonstrate how a hardware technology can be used to support the development renewable energy systems such as solar, wind or thermo. The entry should include a description of the product or system design highlighting its relevance to renewable energy systems, for example how it can improve efficiency or usability of renewable energy systems.

Semiconductor Product of the Year – Analogue sponsored by



Entries should include a description of an analogue semiconductor product which has set new performance benchmarks in the last 12 months. As well as performance data, judges will be looking for evidence of how the product addresses and solves specific design issues. Does it improve on previous generations of devices, and why will designers find it useful?

Entries should include a description of a digital semiconductor product which has set new performance benchmarks in the last 12 months. As well as performance data, judges will be looking for evidence of how the product addresses and solves specific design issues. Entries should demonstrate how an LED technology can be used to improve efficiency, cost and usage in a lighting application. From mood-lighting to vehicle lighting, areas of interest can include commercial, professional, industrial as well as consumer.
