Company of the year will be chosen from the winners of each of the individual categories. Technology innovation and business success will be taken into account as the judges identify one company which demonstrates outstanding achievements. (Please note: entries are NOT invited for this award)
Test Product of the Year
This product category is dedicated to finding the most innovative piece if test equipment of the last 12 months. Suppliers are invited to enter what they see as their single most product introduction. The category is open to hardware and applications software. Judging criteria will include usability as well as raw performance.

Semiconductor Product of the Year – Digital
Entries should include a description of a digital semiconductor product which has set new performance benchmarks in the last 12 months. As well as performance data, judges will be looking for evidence of how the product addresses and solves specific design issues. Does it improve on previous generations of devices, and why will designers find it useful? Judging criteria will be the products – performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application.
Semiconductor Product of the Year – Analogue
Entries should include a description of an analogue semiconductor product which has set new performance benchmarks in the last 12 months. As well as performance data, judges will be looking for evidence of how the product addresses and solves specific design issues. Does it improve on previous generations of devices, and why will designers find it useful? Judging criteria will be the products – performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application.
Design Tools and development software Award
The judges will be looking for a design tool, application or software IP that stands out for its level of innovation from the last 12 months. It ranges from EDA chip and PCB design tool suites to embedded development tools for microcontroller based systems. The judging criteria will focus on usability of the software as much as the level of technical innovation.
Embedded System Product of the Year
We are inviting companies to enter semiconductor (SoC or FPGA), software or board-level product launches of the last 12 months. Judging criteria will be the products – performance, design flexibility and suitability for an application. Entries are expected to range from bus-based board systems to single chip system-on-chip designs.
Passive & Electromechanical Product of Year
Whether it’s resistors, capacitors, inductors or resonators you supply. Or switches, connectors or actuators, we invite companies to enter their key passive or electromechanical component introduction of the last 12 months. Criteria will include overall design, use of materials and packaging.
Power System Product of the Year
We invite companies to enter power module and power supply innovations from the last 12 months. Judging criteria will look for new topologies & architectures, use of materials, advanced semiconductor technologies and packaging.
Renewable Energy Design Award
Entries should demonstrate how a hardware technology can be used to support the development renewable energy systems such as solar, wind, tidal or some other form of renewable power system. The entry should include a description of the product or system design highlighting its relevance to renewable energy systems, for example how it can improve efficiency or usability of renewable energy systems.
Solid-State Lighting Application Award
Entries should demonstrate how an LED technology can be used to improve efficiency, cost and usage in a lighting application. The entry should include a description of the product or system design highlighting its relevance to system designers, for example how it can improve efficiency or usability, with a practical cost model.
Design Team of the Year
We invite product design companies to tell us about a particular design team or project which has achieved significant success in the last 12 months. The projects can involve a successful product introduction or specific product intellectual property (IP) development. Judges will be looking for the level of innovation as much as any commercial success.
Distributor of the Year
Distribution companies have the chance to outline how they have overcome the challenges of the last 12 months and how they looking to make the most of growth in eth market this year. Entering companies will need to demonstrate that they derive a majority of their revenues from the selling of components, systems or software products which are manufactured by their principals.
We are looking for the new and innovative ways in which companies have strategies to reduce the impact on the environment of their products, manufacturing processes and commercial practices. The judges will be looking for evidence of how good environmental practice has permeated across the company by being inclusive of staff at all levels of the organisation.
Manufacturer Export Award
Manufacturers – OEMs, sub-contractors and EMS companies - are invited to tell us of their business achievements and success stories in export markets during the last 12 months. Business highlights can include collaborations, partnerships, investments or straight-forward sales success.
New Company of the Year
Venture fund or privately financed companies which have set up operations in Europe in the last five years will be considered for the start-up of the year award. We invite entries from start-up companies building a world-class business in anyone of a range of business activities from product design and manufacture through to online services companies.
Engineers of the Future
The Elektra Awards supports young engineers and students.
University Department of the Year
Electronics Weeklyis looking to find the most innovative and successful electronic and electrical engineering department within a university or collage. Judging criteria will include interesting project work for students, industry partnerships and international collaborations. We will also be interested to learn of research successes.
Educational Support Award
We are inviting companies to tell us how they have provided support to schools, colleges and universities. This can include financial support for specific scholarships and awards. The support can be in the form of technology they have provided. It can also involve collaborations providing seminars.
Rising Star New Engineer of the Year

Electronics Weeklyis looking for talented and ambitious young engineers, new graduates or engineers in their first five years in the industry. It is hoped that the winning engineer will demonstrate a combination of both technical knowledge and practical application of their skills in specific projects.
Lifetime Achievement Award
This is a special award presented by Electronics Weekly to an individual who in our opinion has made a significant contribution to electronics technology or business in Europe. (Please note: entries are NOT invited for this award)
